Hey There

Demetric Mclemore

I was born at Balboa Hospital on March 3, 1962, in San Diego, California.  My father was Lon Doaty Jr., a Navy Master Chief; and my mother was Evelyn Doaty. I found a love for poetry early as I attended a local community college. Upon graduation and receiving my AAS degree in Business, I enlisted in the US Army.  During my service, I met and married my husband of 30 years, Cecil Mclemore.  I never gave up my love for poetry, although my military career left little time for me to write it.  My passion for poetry eventually landed me at Southern New Hampshire University, where I am currently earning my Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing and English with a concentration in poetry. I continue to write poetry using vivid imagery and descriptive language to tell my character's story. My experience of working over 34 years with diverse people state-side and abroad would introduce me to different ethnic groups, cultures, and backgrounds.  My experience with various age groups would help me see life differently, and my experience in combat would show me how people reacted in situations other than everyday ones. I use modern realism using freestyle and traditional poetry. My themes include social issues, love, mental health, oppression, and violence against women. I feel every voice should be heard, and I encourage you to grab a cup of Joe and some poetry before your hectic day!
